fire beetles
description
I did this beetle illustation in spring 2020 inspired by red fire beetles in my mums garden. Actually I never really liked those beetles as a kid, but on the illustration they look kind of cute to me. I can imagine them on a pattern or on a screenprint as well. Also, if you take a closer look, the black parts on their body resemble creepy faces or masks. I made a mistake in one of them, find it!

Willows are my favorite trees, and I wanted to draw one from an interesting perspective. I never tried this shadowing technique before and it got me really excited. In my opinion the left bottom corner is the strongest part of the illustration, in the rest I got very confused with all the branches crossing each other and couldn't really manage to get the right perspective. Anyways I really like how this turned out.

beetles
description
Apparantly I have a beetle fetish. For real, my mum told me that I carried around a dead scarab for two weeks when we where on holiday in agypt. Although I was only 17 years old at that time (jk), I can surely understand why one would be fascinated by the colors of these animals. Concerning my illustration, I used the wrong paper and had a very hard time with the colors not floating into each other. Remember to use aquarell paper kids.

This illustation was made for an uni course, where we had to pick an animal and illustrate it in different styles. I really wanted to choose an ugly one, but actually I find them kind of fun now. Also I found out my godmother has a thing for them because they somehow reflect her taste in men, so I will gift one to her eventually. I feel like I learned a lot about shading and structure and not so much on how to make 92631418 strokes without loosing your mind.
